Sunday 19th May - Day 4
I have had a very quiet night with my nurse Siji, and this morning the surgeons came to see me and have decided to close my chest, which means my little "My Chest is Open" sticker will be taken away.
Just to give my mummy and daddy a bit more stress I have been dropping my saturation levels a bit this morning before the operation, it's just what I do!
My nurse Antonia has set my bed space up as a mini operating theatre, there are lots of nurses all dressed up with hats and masks and all the visitors and parents have been asked to leave intensive care for a couple of hours.
The surgeons have checked me out inside and say everything is looking ok, and they have put my chest bones and ribs back together with special wires and sewn my chest back together. They say I have tolerated it well. So after 4 days my operation is now complete!
I have had a new larger diameter pulmonary conduit fitted to the right side of my heart, I have had my pulmonary arteries enlarged from my left lung to my right lung using a special patch which has been stitched into my own arteries and then connected to the conduit. I have had my VSD (hole in my heart) closed with a patch, which they have had to put a little hole back into because my pulmonary pressures were too high and they have made a new hole (an ASD) to help with balancing the pressures between the left and right side of my heart.
I had to go back onto the bypass machine on Thursday evening because my arteries were bleeding lots and the pressures were too high, so the surgeons fitted a wrap to my left artery where it meets my lungs to help and put me a new hole in my heart to balance the pressures, in their words "It was technically challenging". There was even a surgeon who came from London to help for the day!
I saw one of the nurses (yes Claire) last night and she was telling me that I had made her work very hard on Thursday night and she was very tired on Friday, but that's what I do!!
My nurse has also put my ventilator down my nose (it was in my mouth before) and changed all my bedding, I now have a "Dora the Explorer" pink bed sheet to lie on, nice.
I have now got to be a good girl before the doctors start to make me do some work for myself as they will be starting to reduce my dependency on the machines, but only very gently!!

Keep up the good work Hannah. You are such a brave little girl. Grace can't wait to tell you about the wedding. She had a great time dressing up and putting on her makeup. We all hope for a fast recovery xx
Hi Hannah,
Harriet here! So pleased to hear that the operation is now complete. The nurses looking after you all sound lovely.
Today I took Mummy and Daddy to my Granny & Grandad's house for lunch. We all went to the pond across the road to feed the ducks & see the swans & their four fluffy cygnets. Daddy took a picture which I will send to you (text to your Mummy's iPhone). I would love to take you to see them when you are feeling better.
This is the first time I've ever used a blog, so thank you for showing me new techno stuff!! I'll have to teach my very old parents how to do it too!
I hope you are feeling much better soon.
Lots of love to you & your mummy & daddy

Hiya Hannah,
I've been listening very carefully while my daddy reads me your blog and We all agree that you are being
very brave. I particularly liked listening to the bit about your french plaits and I wondered if you could help give me some when my hair is long enough?
First of all, I want to say a big thank you for my lovely birthday presents.I love my new clothes - I'm sure you must have
helped pick them out as they are beautiful, just like yours! My daddy also likes my new ball, unfortunately I haven't been able to play with it as much as I would like as he is always playing with it - doesn't he know that Minnie Mouse is for girls!
I thought I should also tell you about the busy day I had yesterday. I went to help mummy & daddy go to the village hall to help setup for the wedding. I had the most important job of making sure that everybody was working very hard and I managed to keep everyone in check by scooting around in my stroller - it was so much fun as there was plenty of room for me to roam around in. Mummy,Nanna,Grandad and Grandma & Grandad all worked very hard.I caught Daddy pretending to be busy, but I know better!
Daddy also showed me a picture of him dressed up as Princess Leia on his 'stag do'.He told me that your daddy made him dress up like that. I don't think I approve of that - his legs are far too hairy for that dress! He tells me that there is a picture of you dressed up as Princess Leia - now I would like to see that picture.
I'm really pleased that your operation is now complete and I hope that you get better really quickly so that I
can come and see you really soon.
Bye for now Hannah,
Lots & lots of love

Hi Hannah
Hope you continue to get better and make good progress. We are all thinking of you back in Dove Holes. Harry, Jake and Joshua are getting ready to go back to school tomorrow and Daisy fast asleep ready to go to Playgroup in the morning. Daisy has managed to ride her bike to the park for the first time today which has made her extremely tired!! We are checking on your progress all of the time and thinking also of your brave Mummy and Daddy who must be very tired. All of our love to you all!
Simon, Lisa, Harry, Jake, Joshua and Daisy xx
Hi Hannah,
This is Phoebe, from school. I am very excited to leave you a message like this, as I've never done it before!
We are all missing you lots at school but today we had to bring home extra homework which I'm not very happy about. Mrs Williamson was off school for most of last week as she completely lost her voice but today she was back which made us all happy. In fact, I saw her at John Lewis on Saturday and I was very excited!
I am so impressed by how brave you are being - I really hope you are feeling better very soon and am sending my biggest hugs to you. lots of love, Phoebe Pittham xxx
