Today has been a long day!
At 8.30am this morning my dad carried me to my operation and helped to send me to sleep. My mum, Andrea my top of K2 nurse and Cerys the Welsh Camel went with me, Cerys was allowed to stay with me all day!
I don't normally follow plans so today was no different! The surgeons thought my operation would take 4 - 6 hours. 15 1/2 hours later I arrived back on intensive care. If I can't go out on a Friday night then I thought it was only fair if all the surgeons stayed in with me!
The surgeons said the operation went well and they managed to join my pulmonary arteries, but when they tried to take me off the heart and lung bypass machine, I misbehaved. They tried another operation, but I misbehaved again. I ended up being put on an ECMO machine which is helping my heart and lungs whilst I recover. I also had another trip into the catheter theatre so the doctors could do some investigation. I have got them all scratching their heads again!
At 1am my mum and dad were allowed in to see me, but it was very busy. I have now got 2 intensive care bays, 2 nurses and a perfusionist all to myself! How lucky am I!
Cerys the Welsh Camel is helping hold my ventilator in place as she did last time I was in intensive care.
I was looked after by Jane and Irene all night and I slept well as I had had a very long and tiring day!
